Lauderdale veterinarian travels world helping animals, next stop Alaskan Iditarod

IMG_1940FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A local veterinarian with Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists travels the world to help animals and her next stop is scheduled to be in Alaska at the Iditarod.

Dr. Lynel Tocci, the department head of emergency and critical care at Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists, has volunteered to make the trek to be in sub-zero temperatures where she will assist as a veterinarian during the next Alaskan Iditarod in March of 2016.

Traveling as a veterinarian is nothing new for Tocci. She volunteers in her off-time with World Vets International Aid for Animals. While deployed with World Vets, Tocci provides veterinary services in developing countries where veterinary care is often limited. She also teaches at the World Vets Latin American Surgical Training Center in Granada, Nicaragua annually providing surgical and anesthesia instruction to Latin American veterinarians and veterinary students.

“I use my knowledge and skills to give back to animals in need,” said Tocci, a board-certified specialist in veterinary emergency and critical care with LVS. “At Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists, we treat some of the sickest animals in a state of the art facility, and it is my goal to help provide the highest level of veterinary care in developing countries around the world.”

Working as a volunteer veterinarian, Tocci last went to Shkoder, Albania in August to assist with a large volume of spays and neuters.

During the past eight years that Tocci has volunteered with the World Vets, she has provided veterinary care in Cambodia, Columbia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and Vietnam.
