BusterFB_IMG_1454866044073FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Doctors from Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists, a specialty and emergency hospital for pets in Fort Lauderdale, are treating a one-year-old mixed-breed dog, after he was rescued by 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida Rescue.

The dog, named Buster by rescuers, was taken to Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists from Miami Dade Animal Services. He was dropped off there this weekend suffering from emaciation and severe mange that left him covered with sores and scabs.

As soon as the team from 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida Rescue saw Buster’s photo, they rushed over to pick him up to ensure he would get the much-needed specialty treatment.

“Buster’s injuries are consistent with neglect and he faces a long road to recovery,” said Dr. Lynel J. Tocci, a board-certified specialist in veterinary emergency and critical care, who is in charge of Buster’s care. “His prognosis is very good once we get his immediate skin issues under control.”

Buster is currently in the hospital’s intensive care unit and is receiving IV fluids, antibiotics and medications for mange and parasites. He is also on pain medication to keep him comfortable and the nursing staff is giving him daily baths.

“Now that Buster is in the hands of Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists and our team, we know he is going to make it. No question about it,” said Amy Roman, president and founder of 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida Rescue.
