Update: Pig saved from pit bull attack to live new life in sanctuary

Miss Piggy 1FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A pig that was attacked last month by two pit bulls and taken to Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists for specialty and emergency treatment, is scheduled to be transferred to a wildlife sanctuary in Melrose, Florida on Thursday.

The female pig, named Miss Piggy by her rescuers, was found on the evening of July 3, exhausted and bleeding in a pool at a Pembroke Pines home while the two pit bulls that attacked her were still harassing her, witnesses said.

Since the night of the attack, Miss Piggy has been at Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists, where doctors have been giving her treatment.

Miss Piggy 2“We’re happy to say that after a month of treatment and care, Miss Piggy’s wounds have healed and she has found a forever home where she will be able to live out a wonderful life at Rooterville Sanctuary,” said Dr. Ira Zaslow, a board-certified specialist in veterinary emergency and critical care and medical director of Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists.

Miss Piggy is scheduled to be transported to Rooterville Sanctuary, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has rescued more than 300 farm animals from abuse and neglect.

Miss Piggy 4On the night of the attack, Pembroke Pines Police and Broward County Animal Control responded to the scene. Miss Piggy was then transported by Broward County Animal Control to Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists where she underwent emergency surgery, given IV fluids, had her wounds cleaned and sutured.
